Peter Grimes
Gera

The casting of the title role with Jeff Stewart can be described as a stroke of luck, because he lived through and suffered the terrible fate of Peter Grimes in every gesture, in every tone. Everything he does is believable and psychologically understandable, even the terrible attacks on Ellen, the boy and the sanctimonious churchgoers.

Gahre – Das Opernglass

Duke of Mantua
Komische Oper, Berlin

With remarkable intensity of acting, Jeffrey Stewart makes this new interpretation his own, and in so doing employs his tenor voice equally intelligently and effectively.

Jeff Stewart | Conductor

Jeff Stewart began conducting when he took over the choir of Holy Trinity Church, Bledlow in 2003. At that time there were just 8 members. However, it was the ideal place for him to cut his teeth as a choir trainer and conductor. despite the fact that Bledlow is a tiny village in the Chilterns, word about this choir quickly spread and the membership quickly increased to it’s current level of about 40 members.

The quality of the choir is quite remarkable for any church choir, let alone a village church choir. They have sung many services as replacements for Cathedral choirs including services in Christchurch Cathedral, Oxford, Norwich, Birmingham, Wells, Salisbury, Lincoln and Peterborough cathedrals, as well as, most recently, Southwell and York Minsters.

In 2009 Jeff was appointed as Musical director of Uxbridge Choral Society. He has already performed several very ambitious programmes with them, including a full scale Messiah and the world amateur premiere of Sir John Tavener’s Lament For Jerusalem.

In 2015 he became musical director of Aylesbury Choral Society and began by conducting the Brahms Requiem.

In 2011, Jeff founded his own company, Choral Holidays , which takes groups of amateur singers to beautiful and interesting locations and forms them into choirs which give a performance at the end of the holiday. This led to wonderful events at Milton Abbey, the Battistro in Pisa and Santa Croce in Florence, Santuari de Lluc in Mallorca and a host of cathedrals in England. Through this company he has also created an advanced choir, Cantemus Cum Spiritu to give singers who are considered leaders within their own choirs but whose choirs don’t sing cathedral services, the chance to do so.

Jeff is also regularly invited to give workshops to other choirs both ing the UK and abroad.
